Who We Are

PlainSpeak (accessible at decodemydoc.com) is a document simplification service that uses artificial intelligence to translate legal documents into plain English. PlainSpeak is operated as an independent business based in the United States.

What Information We Collect

We collect the minimum information necessary to provide the service:

• Document text — the text you paste or upload for analysis. This is sent to Anthropic's API to generate your summary and is not stored on our servers after processing.
• Payment information — when you pay for a full summary, Stripe collects your name, email address, and payment card details. We never see or store your full card number. Stripe handles all payment processing.
• Email address — collected by Stripe at checkout. We may use this to send you a receipt or respond to support requests. We do not send marketing emails without your consent.
• Usage data — basic analytics such as pages visited and errors encountered, collected automatically by Vercel (our hosting provider). This data is anonymized and used only to improve the service.

How Your Document Text Is Handled

When you submit a document for analysis, the text is transmitted securely to Anthropic's Claude API for processing. Anthropic generates the plain-English summary and returns it to you. Your document text is not stored on our servers after your session ends.

Anthropic processes your document text subject to their own privacy policy, available at anthropic.com/privacy. We recommend reviewing their policy if you have concerns about submitting sensitive documents.

Our recommendation: Do not submit documents containing highly sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, or medical records. Use this tool for understanding document terms and obligations, not as a secure document vault.

How We Use Your Information

• To provide the document analysis service
• To process your payment and send a receipt
• To respond to customer support requests
• To improve the reliability and quality of the service

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your document content for advertising purposes.

Third Party Services

PlainSpeak uses the following third party services to operate:

Data Retention

Document text is not retained after your session ends. Payment records are retained by Stripe in accordance with their data retention policies and applicable law. We retain transaction records (amount, date, email) for accounting and tax purposes for up to 7 years.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Request a copy of personal data we hold about you
• Request deletion of your personal data
• Opt out of any marketing communications
• Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

Cookies

PlainSpeak uses minimal cookies necessary for the service to function, including session storage to deliver your document summary after payment. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

Children's Privacy

PlainSpeak is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information through our service, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
